Sermon 6 – The Crystal Set

by Rob Macpherson

Consider what it is to have a pretty good grasp on reality only to be shown a Crystal Radio set. This seeming box of old wire, some aluminum foil and a piece of magical rock delightfully and enigmatically named a Diode. Suddenly as you ground it and move the filaments across the coil voices appear to come out of thin air. You are told these voices were always there for those who had the equipment to capture them.

Is our experience a little like this. We are limited not only by the extent of our senses but so too by our culture, our upbringing and our knowledge. This sermon reminds us to re tune our receivers, broaden our bandwidth and listen for the music that’s just a few filaments of wire away from being heard.

Enjoy,

^_^
